Some facts about our school

January 03, 2008

Central Catholic High School was established in 1852, and has for its existence educated Christian leaders.  We do admit young men of all faiths.  The members of the Society of Mary (Marianists) have institutionalized a process of education that is academically and intellectually rigorous, and, at the same time, is critically and morally discerning.  We are a liberal arts school, the "liberal" meaning that our work frees our graduates to grow and learn throughout their lives.

Central Catholic High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department (TCCED).  Our curriculum conforms to their requirements, and our faculty meets or exceeds their expectations. Our latest self-study and their evaluations are available on campus for review. We welcome students of any race, color or creed.  Applicants are evaluated primarily on their ability to benefit from a college-preparatory program and on their personal interest in doing so.

The faculty consists of 42 teachers and administrators.  Twenty-four have their master's degrees or higher.  Five are religious; two are priests; two are deacons.  The remainder are lay men and women.  Enrollment ('07-08) is 510.

Graduation requirements may be accessed through the student-parent handbook.  Generally 28 credits are required for graduation.  We offer honors and advanced placement courses across the curriculum.  We also offer Joint Enrollment (JET) credit with St. Mary's University, our sister Marianist institution.

Grading system: Report cards, honor roll and transcripts are based upon GPA.  Class rank is based upon the collegiate 4.0 GPA, giving a 0.5 increment for each Honors class.  Successful completion of an AP or JET credit class adds 1.0 to the grade point assignment for that class.

College admissions and Scholarships: Typically 98-100% of our graduates immediately enter institutions of higher learning.  The Central Catholic class of 2007 collectively received over $9 million in college scholarship and grant offers.  In the past six years we have averaged two National Merit Scholars per year in graduating classes of 106-115 members.  Students received acceptances from 90 colleges and universities across the United States, including service academies and every Ivy-League college and university.

Symbols: our school colors are blue and white.  Our mascot is the rattlesnake (the Buttons are the rattles).  Our motto is Fides, Sapientia, Integritas  (Faith, Wisdom, Integrity).
