King Sextimus the Silent is under a curse--he must silently put up with Queen Aggravain's bossy ways until his son marries a really sensitive girl. Well, you all know the story of the Princess and the Pea, but the tale, which can be told in three sentences, was turned by Thompson, Fuller and Barer (libretto) and Mary Rodgers (music) into Once Upon a Mattress. The comedy that developed is on stage this weekend at Providence High School auditorium, and features four Central Catholic men in lead and supporting roles.
You have to hear Richard Campa as Prince Dauntless--his rendition of "I'm In Love with a Girl Named Fred" and his interpretation of his speechless dad's explanation of the Facts of Life are alone worth the price of admission. This is one of Barbara Baker's best productions. If you don't get down laughing, you just have lost your sense of humor.
