123 young men received diplomas
157th Commencement Exercises

One hundred and twenty-three young men in the Class of 2009 walked across the stage to receive their diplomas during the 157th Commencement Exercises held May 28 at Bill Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary's University.
Bryan Richter was honored as valedictorian and Mark Varela was honored as salutatorian. Seventy-nine members of the Class of 2009 have been offered scholarships and grant awards from colleges and universities amounting to over $12.1 million.
Mr. Tom Benson, Owner of the New Orleans Saints and long-time San Antonio businessman, delivered an enthusiatic Commencement Address.
He challenged the graduates to "set goals and to work hard with a purpose."
Addison Walton '09 and Charles "Trey" Macias '09 delivered emotional messages to the Class of 2009.
Some of the highlights of the Central Catholic Class of 2009 include:
- Three National Merit Scholarship finalists; eight National Merit commended students
- Four appointments to military academies
- One National Achievement Scholar
- Eight Eagle Scouts
- One state championship (Soccer won TAPPS 5A State Championship for the third consecutive year)
