Congratulations to Coach Kelly Altman
June 03, 2009
Kelly
Altman, Head Varsity Soccer Coach at Central Catholic High School,
has been named the Texas Association of Private and Parochial
Schools (TAPPS) 5A Coach of the Year for 2008-09.
Altman led the Central Catholic Buttons to a 20-5-0 record and a
Number 5 area ranking by the San Antonio Express-News in
2009. The team has won three consecutive TAPPS state championships
-- in 2007, 2008 and 2009. (The last two championships were under
Altman's leadership.) Central Catholic has compiled a 41-6-1
overall record in his two seasons as Head Coach.
"I have been following the rebirth of our Soccer program and its growth. The winning character of this team is not as impressive as the spirit of cooperation and good sportsmanship taught by Kelly," says Deacon Pat Cunningham '64, Principal.
Coach
Carlos Enrico '72, Central Catholic Athletic Director, was named
TAPPS Coach of the Year for 2001-02.
In addition to his coaching duties at Central Catholic, Altman is
the Assistant Coach for the Trinity University Tigers men’s soccer
program. He joined the Trinity coaching staff in the fall of 2007
after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from
Trinity.
While a student, Altman was a defender for the Tigers from 2001 to
2004. After winning an NCAA Division III National Championship in
2003, Coach Altman went on to Captain the Tigers in his senior
season (2004).
Altman is a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He holds the
Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA).
