CCHS Cafeteria all "tuned" up!

Jazz It Up Phase I makeover reaches completion

Central Catholic students are enjoying a new way to dine this year. The updated Central Catholic cafeteria has opened its doors after more than 10 weeks of hard work.

The 2009 Parent Event made the cafeteria’s new facelift possible. The event is an annual fundraiser in which parents rally together to benefit Central Catholic High School. Last year’s theme was entitled, “Jazz It Up,” with a goal of "fine-tuning" the almost 80-year-old Central Catholic cafeteria.

The event committee consisted of 47 Central Catholic parents, co-chaired by Lisa Weissler, mother of Jakob Weissler ‘10 and Luke Weissler ‘13, and Donna Blume, mother of Michael Blume '11. They met regularly each week planning and organizing the event down to its final days.

With the efforts of the committee and sponsors, the evening was a proven success raising $51,000!

“The event was further proof despite hard times our parents believe in supporting a quality Catholic education for our young men,” said Terri Morgan, Advancement Associate for Parents’ and Booster Clubs.

The proceeds allowed for a new look and feel of the location. Renovations included a new ceiling, glass block blue and white windows, a new PA system, blue and white trash receptacles, a new serving line, fresh coat of paint, restoration of the wood to a natural finish and added Marianist artwork.

“I am very pleased with Phase I of the remodeling of the Central Catholic cafeteria,” said Br. Peter A. Pontolillo, S.M., President. “Bro. Tom Suda, S.M., and Mario Gonzales worked tirelessly over the summer at both the construction and coordination of the work.”

“I want to thank Bruce Tschoepe ‘66, Frank Medina '85 and Chris Martinez '96 for their contributions as well,” he continued. “Next year, we hope to complete the total redesign in Phase II.”
