Academics: Awards: Marianist Honors Diploma

Marianist Honors Diploma

Our Highest Diploma

by Pat Cunningham

April 01, 2008

Graduates of Central Catholic who earn the honors diploma have accomplished a major task already, attaining an exemplary grade point average (GPA) and passing a minimum number of honors and Advanced Placement courses.  There is still one honor beyond the honors diploma, the Marianist Honors Diploma.

Students who receive this endorsement to their honors diploma will have during their years at CCHS inculcated to a significant extent the five Characteristics of Marianist Education.  They will have attained an integration of their quality education.  They will have worked toward peace  with justice by showing a service commitment to the poor and marginalized.  They will have shown an ability to change and adapt to circumstances without compromising their ethical integrity.  They will have acquired a true Marianist Family Spirit.  And, above all, they will have grown in their faith in Jesus Christ.

Students who will attain the honors diploma and believe they have acquired these important traits are invited in their senior year to submit to the principal, between March 1 and April 1, a letter requesting the distinction.  The letter should detail the evidence of each of the five characteristics. They may attach supporting letters from those responsible adults outside the school who may have witnessed the evidence of this internal growth.

The principal will submit the names of the applicants to the faculty and staff for recommendations and feedback, and the Administrative Council will affirm or deny the request.  Applicants who are unsuccessful in their application will be notified in person by the principal prior to graduation, in case they need to amend their application to clarify their bona fides  The honorees will be recognized by the principal verbally after the awarding of diplomas at commencement.  The distinction will be recorded on the permanent record of the school.

The designation may be withdrawn by the school for conduct unbecoming to the honor or school at any time.
