Buttons in 2-6A Playoffs
January 15, 2008
We congratulate the varsity basketball team on making it all the way to the regional playoffs, and on the way defeating all but one team in the district at least once. Thanks for an inspiring year! Thanks especially to the seniors for your energy and leadership.
District basketball play opened at the University of the Incarnate Word gym as Central Catholic took down the St. Michael's Crusaders from Austin.
CCHS was "supposed" to be a poor match for the Antonian Apaches but gave as good as it got in a 63-65 first matchup on January 19. Venturini, Carpenter and Galindo all had a double-digit night.
On January 24, the Buttons celebrated the Feast of St. Francis de Sales by coming from behind to defeat the Holy Cross Knights at South San's new gym.
Despite a disappointing remainder of district play, the Buttons attained the playoffs and defeated El Paso Cathedral decisively on Valentine's Day.
Just two days later, the squad traveled to Harlingen to meet the Marine Military Academy team in a bidistrict playoff game. Kelly Carpenter scored 26 points and both Galindo and Dominguez were in double-digits as MMA fell to the Buttons 62-50.
