Senior Divisional Service Hours: Magnificat - 40hr
“For nothing will be impossible with God.’ Then Mary said, ‘Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.’ Then the angel departed from her.”
The seminal theme of the senior campus ministry experience, Magnificat, is centered on becoming a servant of God using Mary as the ultimate model for servant leadership. Through Mary’s “Yes” Christ was brought into this world. The challenge of the senior year faith journey is to take all they have learned and discern how do their classroom experiences, retreat experiences, service experiences, and brotherhood experiences allow them to better answer God’s call and to bring Christ into the world for all those they encounter. It is the hope that by senior year, through the development of their gifts and exposure to serving different groups of people that students understand that “as Marianists, we are called to work for social justice and must be ‘yes-sayers; as well” (John Vogt). When considering an act of service during the senior year reflect on the Magnificat and how to serve our local community using Mary as a guide.
A Reflection for Senior Service Discernment
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.
May the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places through the Immaculate Virgin Mary. Amen
