The Evolution Dual Credit class here at Central Catholic just finished up its 8th year. As the class has “evolved,” so has our relationship with St. Mary’s. On Monday (May 15) St. Mary’s biology professor, Dr. Mary Beth Hawkins guest lectured for a period and gave our evolution students an interactive lesson on birds (which involved bird watching out in the quad!), academic programs at St. Mary’s, research, and so much more. She was engaging and had a great sense of humor. Our boys really loved having her!
Dr. Hawkins is an endocrinologist with a strong background in biochemistry and toxicology. I promised her that next year we’ll do our best to visit her in one of her labs at St. Mary’s. That is definitely something we can all look forward to!
