Central Catholic prides itself on offering many opportunities for our students, especially in the Fine Arts Department. On December 7th, 2023, the Mighty Button Band, the Blue Notes Jazz Band, and the first-ever CC Guitar Ensemble kicked off the holidays with their annual Christmas Concert. This was a special evening to celebrate and welcome 30 guitar students to the world of the Fine arts.
Coming up, the band will be preparing for the 2024 TAPPS Spring Competitions such as Solo and Ensemble and Spring Band. Musicality will be their biggest goal, applying definition to their overall sound and focusing on details in music from dynamics to articulations. The work put into the music played will result in producing expression and quality, which will ultimately carry over to the next year. The band is at the portion of the semester where Seniors will prepare next year’s Seniors to lead the next generation of Button Band members.
GUITAR 1
This year, the Central community will expect to see more students exercise their musical side carrying guitars all around campus and sharing what they know. In addition, the class will be learning the classical method, an approach that will train them to play Melody, harmony, and accompaniment at the same time.
MUSIC APPRECIATION
The students have achieved their first semester in learning about all the instruments in the musical families as well as exercise theory, fundamentals, and experimentation of playing instruments. This semester, the students will choose an instrument they want to master by the end of the school year. This will ultimately lead the class into one day performing as an ensemble.
DIRECTOR’S REMARKS
I challenge everyone to try something new this year. Drink 8 oz. Of water as soon as you wake up, replace burger buns with lettuce, pick up an instrument, or make connections with people you do not know yet. All of this contributes to a musician’s well-being. When will you begin? The time is now!!
