Central Band Hall Updates Video

This week, we wish to acknowledge the students who have been working hard on their instruments since day one. The Central Catholic band hall is a welcoming environment receiving students with potential talents to be mentored and challenged every day to improve their skills and exercise confidence to play in front of an audience.

Our CC Guitarists performed their first classical solos in front of the class, simulating the experience of being onstage, demonstrating concert etiquette by bowing and playing their best from beginning to end. Our brothers were in full support of each performance and are looking forward to their next in-class performances that will occur each month.

Music Appreciation is also making history as a general music class receiving the opportunity to learn an instrument for an entire semester. The lessons incorporate topics of music fundamentals such as scales, intervals, chords, and rhythm for half of the class time while the other half is devoted to the students putting in practice time on their desired instrument. The students walk away with something gained each day, feeling refreshed and satisfied with their progress that they walk to their next class period with something to be proud of.

Finally, our Mighty Button Band has been working double if not triple time on repertoire for the upcoming pep rallies, TAPPS Solo and Ensemble, TAPPS Spring Band Championships, Battle of Flowers Fiesta, and the End of Year Spring Concert. In addition, our Seniors have been hard at work seeking scholarship opportunities in the form of auditions within the music programs of various universities such as UNT, UTSA, and UT Austin. One senior, our drum major, Benicio Martinez, has been traveling to these universities to participate in competitive auditions for acceptance into the universities and potentially receive scholarships for admission. The band program applauds Benicio for taking on this task and is in full support of his journey towards majoring in music education.
